Those of you who are playing through Bioshock 2 may want to join in the discussion over at the Vintage Game Club. A lot of interesting and intelligent discussion going on over there.

You guys are so lame. Looking for meaning in videogames! Don’t you realize that they’re meant for children and that their whole history is one of being marketed to children and teens. Just because Bioshock’s devs don’t support your philosophy doesn’t mean you should try to put meaning into a stupid game.
In other news, I started Assassin’s Creed 1 last night. Mostly cool so far. The environment is incredible and the free-running is probably how Mirror’s Edge should have done it. But I can see it growing old if things don’t pick up.
In other other news, Torchlight is beguiling. Remember how I complained that despite being pretty slick, it was very repetitive and had only a male nipple’s worth of story to it? I just checked my logs on it and I put over 90 hours in. And I’d probably still be doing so, trying to beat it on Very Hard with Hardcore checked if I hadn’t forced myself to switch to Assassin’s Creed. Weird.
And bravo Runic for creating something I can’t put down despite only kind of liking.
If I were you I would quit AC and wait to buy AC2 and play it. From what I’ve heard, things definitely don’t pick up.
But AC2, now there’s a game.
Well, I already plunked my $5 down for AC so I’ll go ’til I finish or drop it like DA:O. After AC, I have GTA:IV and MA1 in queue.
And some day, I may even play World of Goo, which I got for $4.
Boo AC1! Hooray AC2!
90 hours of Torchlight? Might have to check that one out.
Also, +1 for the VGC and for Michael Abbott’s site, BrainyGamer.com. It’s a great place for thoughtful (and civil) discussion of games.
Absolutely, Matt. I’ve loved that place for a while now.
Heads.
Heads was Bioshock 2.
Ha, awesome.
As long as we’re talking games here, I’d highly recommend for you XBLA people: Darwinia+ (click for trailer and press). It was released like two days ago.
It’s a much slicker update of something that was amazing a few years back on PC. The company, Introversion, is one of those companies that you really want to succeed and continue innovating because they are one of those that is contributing Life and Breath to contemporary gaming.
If you want to see a good live demo, listening in to two of Introversion’s head guys describe the game and talkign about funny stuff: http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-ex-darwinia-plus/17-1954/
It’s an awesome game and I now wish I had an Xbox just so I could play this again in its evolved state. Plus, I hear the Multiwinia side of things is awesome (I only have the Darwinia side of things—Darwinia+ has both games included). I recommend purchase and evangelism.
