Having ditched the Christian music scene entirely (save for continuing to follow Havalina and Starflyer—neither band being much “in” the scene), I’ve never once heard Pedro the Lion. Or Bazan. I see articles about him every now and then, linked almost exclusively by people who loved him and mourn his agnosticism. So I’m kind of out of the loop about what made him so special.
I just looked up some videos of him singing and he sounded like he was weighted down by like a gallon of Nyquil. Maybe I am just too old or came to him too late. Did someone have to follow him along his progression to like his music? Maybe I just picked the exact wrong songs to sample. Like if someone chose something off Red to see if they could be interested in Weezer.
