Heh, this link totally hit home for me. It’s true; there is an intimate intertwining of life and the career arc of particular MLB players for little boys who love baseball. For me, my favorite player growing up was Lou Whitaker (Sweet Lou)… who has now been out of baseball for 13 years! Sigh.
As far as the political thing, I wouldn’t get too excited. Griffey is preceded by none other than the heartthrob of my youth, Michelle Kwan.
