When I First Met Whitney

When I First Met Whitney

I grew up in a  Christian home where “secular” music was verboten. Fortunately, my parents listened to The Winans family discography entire, so at the age of seven I heard this track from the Winans sibling duo BeBe & CeCe:

I didn’t know that Whitney was “America’s Sweetheart.” I had never heard a Whitney song (I also thought of Michael McDonald as the guy who guested on the 1987 Winans brothers album “Decisions“).

And Whitney? She was that woman who showed up at the tail end of the hip new B and C vid!

A couple of notes on this video:

1. BeBe’s stone-washed jeans and leather jacket

2. CeCe’s might hair

3. The fact that BeBe SOUNDS like Luther Vandross

4. Whitney’s mugging

5. Proof that the devil didn’t have all the good 80s synth pop
