I totally agree! My husband and I started watching American Idol every week with two other couples a few years ago and found ourselves two years later very close and spending lots of non-tv time together. We would usually do dinner or hang-out beforehand and then stay late afterward, and then when the season was over we'd keep our weekly tradition and just pick a new show to watch or just spend time together. We went from being common friends to very close. I think watching tv together once a week is a great way for people to make a commmitment to meeting regularly when they otherwise wouldn't, and great fun and conversation almost always happens, especially in a show as interactive as American Idol! =)

Excellent! How about:
5. Choose shows that are worth discussing.
Some TV is just mindless entertainment; some lends itself to worthwhile conversation, though it only makes a difference if you acually do talk about it with someone.
