Hey Alan,

1. I see your point. I didn't mean to suggest that you were saying we should care about celebrity faith... I meant to say that I disagree that we even need to be very aware of it. In other words, even if some of the people we interact with DO care deeply about celebrity faith, I'm not convinced we need to be knowledgeable about it to interact well with them.

So, I don't think you worded it badly, though it's possible I did not express the nuance of my question well. All I meant to question is whether even knowledge of celebrity faith is needed or helpful in speaking to the general public about faith.

2. Halo 3 is a great tension reliever, even when you and your wife wipe the floor with me.

3. Jelly Beans. Each week I try to bring a few snacks, but usually they are quiet ones. Jelly Beans don't work.

Great episode. My thoughts:

1. Ben, I definitely was not saying that people ought to care what celebrities think about issues of faith but that some people do care, and that there is at least a notable influence on the popular conception of faith. My bad for not being clear. I wondered if I had worded that point correctly, apparently not.
2. Love the bickering. Good thing we played Halo 3 afterward to release that tension.
3. What were you guys eating during the show?
4. Pill in the Pudding is brilliant.

Yeah, good point. I'm not as quick on my feet as Rich. I'm more of a slow and deliberate thinker... no lead time means I need space to think!

I think you both had reasonable points. Rich was highlighting the practical value of being aware of religious sensibilities in pop culture, specifically as manifest in celebrities. You were saying, on the other hand, the fact that they're celebrities has little bearing on the value of their religious views to the common man. These are obviously two different issues, so I understand a little bit why the sigh came about. But still - it gave me a little chuckle.

Here's my issue... in context, Rich's response had nothing to do with my point!

Ben's point: It is not important to know what celebrities think about faith.

Rich's point: Are you then saying that Christians should never discuss anything but Scripture?

Ben's thought (internally): Wait... what?

Ben's response: Look, my point is...

I mean, how do you respond to something like that? It's like arguing with the NRA.

I think the hilarity is just in the playfully antagonistic way you two interact.

Obviously I wasn't making an actual point.

And ben has a super-bad habit of sighing a lot.

LOLpart:

Rich - "Yeh, but we're talking about faith in film, occasionally. So why not just look at Scripture?"

::silence::

::silence::

Ben sighs.

Your show raises questions, answers them, and raises more, always leaving more concepts to consider. Very thought provoking.
